If it’s any indicator of how impressed I am, I’ve already installed Google’s new browser, Chrome, on four computers. It’s fast, simple, and manages tabs extremely well. I like the minimalist look, but did feel it necessary to add the home button (an option under Settings).
This thing is brand new, so I expected a few flaws. I’ve seen only one website that didn’t seem to display correctly, but most of my browsing has been solid and fast.
One thing that gave me pause was the EULA that I didn’t bother to read before downloading:
11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.
Apparently Google had the mind-numbing audacity to think they had property ownership of everything I created while using their browser – like emails, documents, and blog posts. The resulting bad publicity was apparently the reason the original text has quietly been replaced with this:
11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.
There was simply no way they could have enforced such a ridiculous thing, and really, who reads those license agreements anyway?
