A Powerful Message

2008 August 17

While watching reruns of Sex and the City last night, I happened to catch the new television spot for LetCaliforniaRing, a campaign to change hearts and minds about gay marriage. I was so moved by it that I recorded it to the DVR.

I leave this article with you not in an attempt to dissuade you of your beliefs, but at an attempt to foster understanding between two differing beliefs. It’s a rather long article, but it will definitely enlighten you to why the faith I subscribe to (the LDS Church) is in support of Prop 8.

    God bless.

Thank you for sharing this! One of the challenges around gay marriage is that so many straight folks simply can’t relate. Now they can.

@ Jesse: Nothing personal, but it’s difficult for me to accept advice on marriage from a religion founded by a man who had thirty-three wives, many of whom were still married to other men when they were wed to Joseph Smith.

@ Karen: You’re right! I love that it shows a straight couple.

    Wow, great commercial.

I never knew you were a SATC fan. You should’ve went to see the movie with Amanda & I.

and i just made a commercial in my head … a straight line forming into a curve and two hands forcefully keeping it straight until they slip off and the line turns in a curve which is a smile and a tag line appears ‘it is not necessary to be straight to be happy’ might sound cheesy or corny but just a thought i thought to share

@ Alyson: I wouldn’t really call myself a fan, but it’s growing on me. ;)

    @ siawo: I think that’s a wonderful idea!

That is a great ad, Brian. Say, Mrs. Bosquechica and I just celebrated our first legal anniversary last week — some countries (and states) are getting there, at last.

Thoughts on Let California Ring – YES on Prop 8.

The Ad is misleading and attempts to force the concept that people participating in same sex relationship should be recognized on the same level as some one of a particular race?

The only thing that defines a person as being GAY is the act of having sex with someone of the same sex… These people are not born that way – there is no gay gene.
These people are willfully participating in an action that they choose to do.

Mind you – what two or more willing adults do in the privacy of their own home is their business.

Just the same, please do not force on us, our state, our schools and our community to accept this behavior as normal, acceptable, or it be taught in our education system as ok?

@ Yes: I believe that homophobia and racism go hand-in-hand and both should be eradicated. I believe that being gay goes way beyond who you choose to sleep with.

Just the same, please do not force on us, our state, our schools and our community to accept this behavior as normal, acceptable, or it be taught in our education system as ok?

I wonder how many times similar words were uttered about desegregation and interracial marriage?
