To anyone that has the error message :

Failed to open communications
COM5: could not open port: ('CreateFile’, ‘Access is denied.')

~COM5 could be from COM4, COM5, COM6, etc. to COM16~

Disconnect the cable from your Dare to the PC.
Turn Off the Dare
Open BitPim
Reconnect the cable as the Dare is turned off
BitPim 1.0.7 should then see the dare and connect to it

Hope this helps :)

@ Michelle: I honestly have no idea. I would suggest posting the problem here and seeing if some of the other Dare owners have experienced the same problem and have a solution: http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=429

My post comes pretty late but I just don't get whats wrong now. This method used to work for me, I currently have 7 custom ringtones that I made and uploaded with BitPim. Now it doesn't seem to work. I see the new ringtones in my filesystem but when I go to Sound Settings on my Dare, the ringtones are not there.

Anyone else having this issue and can help?

Kathleen, If you want to get ringtones, There are two simple things you can do

1) If you have the ringtones already made on your computer, simply go to yahoo mail, or aol mail and send them to yourself.
Your email will be your number@vzwpix.com
Example 3145678999@vzwpix.com
And attach ringtone as an attachment.
(I do one by one, but maybe you can do mutiple attachments)
This will come to your phone as text message, open it, click icon on right (on ur phone), and select save as ringtone

OR

If you dont have ringtones made go to myxertones.com and create an account.

Once this is done go back to the home page of myxertones and click make your own ringtones.

This site will take you through the steps

I've tried everything to transfer ringtones to my LG Dare. Email/Bitpim/text but Telus has a block on it. How can I bypass the block, does anyone know. I even asked a friend who works for Telus and he says the phone would have to be unlocked but he's unsure how to unlock to transfer ringtones.
