ABC: The New 'Must See TV'

2007 October 31

Remember the old days when NBC ruled the airwaves with a Thursday evening lineup that included Will & Grace, Seinfeld, and ER? Those were all great shows, but these days I’m finding myself turning to ABC more than ever before. In fact, all three of my favorite shows are on that network, so it makes perfect sense that ABC’s new advertising slogan is “Start Here.”

Here are the shows that my DVR is working overtime to record.

Brothers & Sisters – Sundays, 10/9c

This fantastic drama centers around a family struggling to find their way after the loss of their patriarch. Sally Field and Calista Flockheart star. The acting is fantastic and the story lines will leave you on the edge of your seat. I so want to be adopted into this family.

Ugly Betty – Thursdays, 8/7c

Betty is a “Plain Jane” working for a fashion magazine and she’s so out-of-place that it makes for much hilarity. Vanessa Williams character is fierce, evil, and fabulous. Another great cast with superb acting skills and great comedic timing.

Samantha Who? – Mondays, 9:30/8:30c

This is a relatively new show that features Christina Applegate as Samantha, a woman with amnesia who can’t remember what kind of person she was before her accident. Most of what she learns isn’t very encouraging, but she knows that she has a chance to do things better this time around. Jean Smart stars as her hilarious mother.

For me, it’s still Comedy Central. If THE DAILY SHOW, THE COLBERT REPORT, and SOUTH PARK don’t qualify as absolutely essential viewing, nothing does.

The amt of TV I watch is out of control, especially since I complain about not having time to study…
Weeds. Californication. Hell’s Kitchen. Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares. Lost. House. Project Runway. Boston Legal. I’m probably leaving some out. I recently deleted Grey’s Anatomy from my tivo and I’m NOT sad about it, either. Topping the list right now is probably the first two…

@ SCSS: Those are also great shows.

@ Caroline: I haven’t seen most of the shows you listed. I have seen Project Runway, but am not a regular viewer.

I really don’t watch much TV; but I am obsessed with Project Runway. Otherwise, ESPN is all that’s every on… or the weather channel.

If your list doesn’t include SOMETHING from the Food Network, then something is clearly wrong.

@ CuriousC: I love the Weather Channel.

@ Karen: LOL! Paula Deen is pretty enjoyable most of the time.

I’m addicted to It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. And I was a Soporanos freak, but haven’t found a suitable replacement. Brothers & Sisters I watch, I’ve never missed an episode, but it often gets me upset so I don’t know why I do it. I want to control everyone on that show. Maybe I just identify with Sally Fields too much. But instead of showing me the error of my smothering ways, I’d like to control her too.

Wendy: She is such a control freak on the show! I get angry at her kids for making such stupid decisions. I want to shake them and scream, but then I realize that it’s all fiction and doesn’t matter anyway.

I’m not a big TV watcher. Movies (especially old movies), yes, shows, no. Except for the Colbert Report and Dog the Bounty Hunter. I’m hopeless as a TV viewer, and I can’t understand why they show so much cleavage on the Food Channel.

I LOVE Brothers and Sisters, Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty.

Jess and I both screamed at Tommy on B & S last week. Argh…………..
