This is the chapel in our church. We recently decided to add a history page to the church’s website, so Karen gave me a book that was printed in 1974 with the entire history of our church along with many black and white photos. I saw a b/w that looked almost identical to this, so decided to take one in color to use on the history page.
Our facility was built around 1960 after the original church was flooded. It’s pretty easy to see the mid-century influence in the design, and since I’ve long been a fan of such architecture, I think it’s simply beautiful.

This reminds me of the church I grew up in. It was called Holy Comforter and had the same arched beams that support the vaulted ceiling. The wood was darker and there was a railing around the alter where we would kneel for communion. Also there was a giant cross hanging from the ceiling directly over the alter. I hadn’t thought of that in years.
I like a lot of church architecture. I went to Utah last month and got to see the Mormon church there, it was pretty amazing.
they didn’t start hurting till the last 10 minutes or so, then every time she touched me with the gun I winced pretty bad. I wanted christian symbols that weren’t the typical cross like everyone gets
Well, I think one of the best feature of this church is missing and that is the stain glass windows. The colors and design add to the beauty of it.
I love older churches and really like the ones’ that have lots of wood too.
I really dislike the “stadium” type that is constantly being built around here. I understand the need for more space which is good but do we have to be in stadium like atmosphere to be comfortable?
What really breaks my heart is to then watch them tear down the old churches. The church I grew up in recently built a new church but thankfully they kept the old church for Sunday school rooms and fellowship hall. (I don’t go there anymore but I still love that church and would have been crushed if they tore it down!!!)
