Irony
“gay people shouldn’t have rights”
That unfortunate search string brought someone to my blog today. After realizing that I was having a record day in traffic, I took a quick gander at the key words that people are using to find my site and found that search phrase. Hmmmm…
One has to wonder about the mentality of a person that would actually type that in a search engine. Was it a Christian, a Muslim, or just some redneck looking for justification for his beliefs? Why would a person have such hatred of a minority group that they would actually believe those people should have no rights at all? I know many people feel strongly about banning gay marriage and adoption, but no rights?
It’s ironic that such a hateful group of words brought someone to a site that presents a completely opposite viewpoint. I can only hope they read something that enlightened them on the subject. Maybe, just maybe, that’s the reason I’m here.

A couple of years ago, I wrote a short explanation about why I believe that gay people should be allowed to marry. I was having an online discussion about gay marriage and religion, and thought it might be worth repeating here.
It’s not about religion. It’s about having the same rights that are afforded to others. Most people just take those things for granted, but gay couples have several disadvantages that straight couples don’t have to worry about.
We aren’t covered under each other’s health insurances, we have no legal standing over each other’s property in the event of a death, we can be kept out of hospital rooms and funeral plans because we aren’t related by blood or marriage… the list goes on and on.
It’s more about love and PROTECTING your partner, than about an endorsement by religion or society.
