Continuum by John Mayer

If I had to sum up the new offering from Mr. Mayer with one word, that word would be “wow”. Or maybe “genius”, “unbelievable”, or “fantabulous”. I think you are getting my drift. This is the first complete album of his that I have heard, even though I really appreciated singles like “Your Body Is A Wonderland” and “Daughters” from his previous recordings. One could immediately understand that this was a very talented young man with a knack for deep, insightful lyrics. And then I heard the new album.

Every title on this 12-track disc is it’s own masterpiece, with incredibly well-crafted words that read more like poetry than song lyrics. My personal favorites are “Dreaming With A Broken Heart” and “Stop This Train”, the latter being a rather haunting look at aging.

It’s nice to finally see some real talent emerging from today’s music scene.

I’m going to have to check this album out. I hated his other solo stuff, but loved the John Mayer Trio live album.
