12 Reasons Gays Shouldn’t Be Allowed To Marry
Please read this with a sense of humor. This list is meant to be sarcastic, showing the ignorance of arguments against same-sex marriage. Just for the record… I support marriage equality for all.
12 Reasons Gays Shouldn’t Be Allowed To Marry
1. Homosexuality isn’t natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.
2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can’t legally get married because the world needs more children.
3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.
5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are still property, blacks can’t marry whites, and divorce is illegal.
6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.
7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.
8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets, because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
10. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms, because we haven’t adapted to things like cars or longer life spans.
12. Civil unions (providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name) are better, because a “separate but equal” institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will.

are you for or against gay marriage? im confused
@ Helen -
I support it.
Guys, the bible said Homosexual is a sin, and many people get angry why U.S relies on bible, well first of all the U.S lives under god, and you people are concerned if god is on YOUR side… BUT actually we should be concerned if WERE on gods side. I’m telling you jesus is real and you must believe in him. Gay people are living their own life and saying it’s right to love homosexuality because god says its love… but god loves everyone and your the one making your own future.. look at your mortal life right now and compare it to a peice of string, and when your life is in heaven it is a 1000 mile long string. which is better..
@ Max,
There is alot of evidence pointing towards the Bible not actually condemning homosexuality, so I don’t think that is a valid argument against gays. I also don’t believe that being gay has any bearing on our relationship with God. I go to church and I believe in Jesus. I am in a monogamous, loving relationship. I have seen God’s love in my life and in the lives of those around me.
Here is a great website that looks at homosexuality and the Bible from both viewpoints and lets the reader decide for themselves:
http://www.religioustolerance.org/hom_bibl.htm
Please read it with an open mind. Peace.
THIS? Was awesome! I think I love you and if I knew where you lived, I would totally be your hag!
Peace – great blog, I love it!

LOL Cute, almost fooled me at first. Tis a sad day in America when “democracy” is being used by one group of people to deny rights to a minority. I’m expecting propositions to reinstate slavery will be next. And yes, the Bible says that Jews can’t have gay sex. According to the Bible Christians can’t have any sex at all, and by some interpretations technically Christians are not even allowed to go to the bathroom. Jesus wept. JMO —Doug
Unitedcats,
My curiosity has gotten the best of me and I have to know which verses could be interpreted as Christians shouldn’t go to the bathroom! I could have some fun with that one… :)
LOL It’s a reverend Lovejoy quote, also heard it from a feminist years ago. I will try to find something with the actual passages in question.
Lovejoy: “Marge, just about everything is a sin. Y’ever sat down and read this thing? Technically, we’re not allowed to go to the bathroom.” :) Doug
“THIS? Was awesome! I think I love you and if I knew where you lived, I would totally be your hag!”
Sorry Heather, the position has been filled since 1995! LOL
Alyson, girl, you’re too funny! :)
“Sorry Heather, the position has been filled since 1995! LOL”
I hear you – I never usurp another chick’s territory! :)
What a lady. We may be the only 2 good ones left.
I checked out your blog, I like it, we have alot in common.
I came here to check out your blog, via your comments to my Anna Nicole post. (I’ll be back later when I have more time) Anyway, saw this post, and was ready to rip into you. Finished it with a laugh. thanks! We all need to have more humor.
Loved it. I’ll be back
Why are christians so obsessed with other peoples sexuality..so obsessed with sex, gender and genitals…really, don’t they worry about real stuff , like poverty, famine, environmental degradation, war and pestilence, the rich gettting richer and the poor getting more destitute.
Why do they get so obessed with homosexuals, claiming it is a threat to the family ..HOW? if your husband runs off with the hussy next door, how can it be the fault of gays/lesbians? How can gays/lesbians be responsible for 50% divorce rate ( incidentally highest divorce are in the bible belt ha ha ).
If your son does drug and your daughter gets laid while on booze – how is that the fault of gays/lesbians. Christians historically sought out scape-goats..they used to blame Jews, then blacks, then gypsies , then women and now since it is no longer fashionable to blame jews or blacks etc, they have to pick on vulnerable minorities like gays and lesbians.
Hitler did not kill 6 million jews in a vacuum. Centuries of marginalization and denigration and demonizing of jews as Jesus killer enable common german citizens to exercise false moral authority in killing jews. In like fashion centuries of demonizing and denigration of homosexuals embolden wicked and otherwise morally bankrupt ‘straight’ bigots to descrimiaate and do violence to gay and lesbian and other sexual minorities .
Furthermore picking on a scape-goat makes christians feel superior and ‘saved’. Denigrating others is easier than exercising love, charity and compassion which is actually the most basic teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Sadly Christians hardly practise the most important commandemt of Jesus ie. Love God then immediately love your neighbour as yourself ( be he/she gay or staight).
It is AMAZING HOW MANY PEOPLE CALL THEMSELVES CHRISTIANS WHEN THEY IN FACT DO NOT PRACTISE THE MOST IMPORTANT COMMANDMENT OF JESUS !!! THEY WOULD RATHER BE HYPOCRITES AND BE LIKE THE PHARASEES OF OLD DUUUH !
mikhail – a child of the Universe
Hello Brian,
I debated on whether to leave yet another comment on this page… I could have done it on some of the others as well. I have enjoyed the articles and comments and find you to be an interesting person. I have read numerous posts and my special interest lies in the articles related to gays and the church. Your rationale and faith is refreshing. I will be linking your site to mine… if thats okay with you?
dr pers
That’s fine, DRP. Thanks for stopping by and glad you got some enjoyment out of it. :)
Yeah, I totall support gay marriage.. I was throw out the logic..
So you’re tell me a murderer, child molester, and rapist, can have the RIGHT to get married
but…
2 Men or 2 Women can’t.. Wait, what if they are tax-paying, blood donating, fool shelter volunteering men or women. Still no..
That all makes sense because….. riiiiight
1. How can you seriously compare homosexual marriage to eyeglasses and birth control?
If homosexual marriages are “natural”, why are no animals homosexual?
“oh, but I’ve seen a male dog try to get another male dog pregnant before!”
I’m sure you have! Why? Well, to ANIMALS, sex is strictly for reproducing, not pleasure or intimate connection. When a male animal feels that he needs to reproduce, he’s going to try it on a chew toy, furniture, or even another male dog! You can’t argue that it’s “natural”.
And besides, you have more things to worry about if you “get freaky” with a pair of eyeglasses.
CHRISTIANS DO NOT HATE HOMOSEXUALS!!!
Disagreeing with one’s lifestyle is not hate!!! I am a Christian and I love everyone!
Let’s pretend that you do believe homosexuality is a sin… Now let’s imagine that the homosexual isn’t homosexual, but an alcoholic. Do you hate the alcoholic or do you disagree with his lifestyle?
Now, I know you might get mad at me for comparing homosexuality and being an acloholic, but in the argument of “OMG CHRISSTIANNSZZ HATE GAYZZ”, it proves that if we believe it is a sin, we still wouldn’t love them any less.
[[[Furthermore picking on a scape-goat makes christians feel superior and ‘saved’. Denigrating others is easier than exercising love, charity and compassion which is actually the most basic teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Sadly Christians hardly practise the most important commandemt of Jesus ie. Love God then immediately love your neighbour as yourself ( be he/she gay or staight).]]]
First of all, some Christians are closer to God than others, thus, they love more like Jesus would than other Christians… this doesn’t prove that their religion is wrong, because the Bible constantly tells us that we “fall short of the glory of God” (sin!)
And we can’t feel “superior” or “more saved” because everyone is equal when it comes to salvation and sin in God’s eyes. You CANNOT earn points as a Christian. You dont earn salvation.
Oh, and the redneck-baptist member does not represent the entire Christian community.
Maybe a Christian might hate a homosexual, but if they listened to God, they wouldn’t.
Like I said, some are close to God than others.
Maria,
First of all (as clearly stated in the post), this list is supposed to be sarcastic. None of the arguments are real, but show the “logic” behind the arguments of the people opposed to same-sex marriage.
Secondly, there are plenty of documented cases of homosexual pairings of animals. And animals do not just have sex for reproduction; some of them have sex for status in a group or for fun. And, no, I’m not talking about a dog humping another dog of the same sex.
Read this for more information: 1500 Animals Species Practice Homosexuality
I also find it interesting that you condemn gays because anything other than procreative sex is “unnatural”, when opposite-sex couples clearly have sex for many reasons besides bearing a child.
* There is alot of evidence pointing towards the Bible not actually condemning homosexuality *
There is no such evidence. There is only a lot of hopeful spin by those who wish they may be both christian and homosexual and by those who don`t really give a damn about scripture or God. Here is where the debate should end…… He made them male and female and for that reason a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave unto his wife and God will make them one. You cannot make that a mistranslation. That is where marriage is instituted in judeo/christianity. Anyone who wishes to modify that understanding is free to provide a legitamate scripture which institutes any other construction than that. GOOD LUCK FINDING IT!
Actually, God made about 2% of them somewhat hermaphroditic, and a significant percentage of those are true hermaphrodites. Male and female are human categories, God saw fit to create all possible combinations of these two extremes. If the bible missed this, I wonder what else it missed?
* Actually, God made about 2% of them somewhat hermaphroditic *
That is a personal opinion that lacks any scriptural validity. Are you sure you want a doctrinal debate? I`m not completely sure this is the venue for this. I have been locked in constant debate over this and many issues on the yahoo (christian) message board for six or more years. I got to this blog because I seem to share an interest in architecture with the moderator (or whatever capacity he holds here).
* Male and female are human categories, God saw fit to create all possible combinations of these two extremes. *
The concept of origional sin explains away anyones notion that Gods intent was to blur the lines of gender.
* If the bible missed this, I wonder what else it missed? *
It isn`t the bible that missed something. It is those who pretend they are qualified to expound upon this issue that show themselves ignorant. I`ve been a christian for 37 years and I have read the bible more than once.
“Actually, God made about 2% of them somewhat hermaphroditic.”
Um, no, it’s a fact. You know, the real world. Were you unaware that many babies are born with both male and female genitalia? What does the bible have to say about them?
* Um, no, it’s a fact. *
Incorrect.
* You know, the real world. *
The issue is your mischaracterization of scripture. When you claim it missed something you couldn`t possibly qualify that statment with your degree of unfamiliarity with it. You know intellectual honesty.
* Were you unaware that many babies are born with both male and female genitalia? *
That is inprecise. All embryos start out in development as female until from 6-8 weeks into the pregnancy. At that point the development uses the generic genital tissue to form either male genitals or continue to build them as female. That is a general statment the process is much more complicated than that.
* What does the bible have to say about them? *
The bibles intent is as a societal constructor. It isn`t meant as a science book. Pertaining to science we have the guarantee that it is generally correct; not specifically informative. If it needed to be specifically scientifically informative then it wouldn`t have been fit to introduce to those 2000 years ago neither would we be conditioned to comprehend it.
In other words, the bible is always right. Good luck with that.
* In other words, the bible is always right. *
Depends on what your motives are. If you want to discredit it in your mind you will find a reason to. But I find it dishonest for someone to go through those motions pretending to be openminded. The motive always predates the action. In scripture we are told what our motives must be (must have been). Hebrews 11:6.
* Good luck with that. *
Luck doesn`t have anything to do with it. It isn`t luck if it is wrong. If it is right it is providential.
People you are losing the point of having a relationship with God. Love that hopes all things, believes all things and endures all things. You can say all you want that you love the sinner but hate the sin but that is just not true when you don’t support what is in the best interest of the indivdual. It is not the governments responsibility to tell two consenting adults that they can not get married because it goes against God’s law. The Bible should speak to you personally but should not be used by the government to control actions of others.
We are called to love God with all our heart and love our neighbour as ourselves. Do you feel you have the right to get married? Then so does your neighbor; end of story. God will deal with us all according to his grace and justice. Playing God in other peoples lives will only lead to great abuse of that power.
Amen Mikhail and Unitedcats – The rest of you – Jesus is the son of GOD – he sits on his right, Jesus is NOT GOD only his son, Jesus was borned and died a JEW! The bible was written by MEN it is not A BOOK BY GOD!!!! THE BIBLE HAS BEEN INTERPRETED BY MANY AND TAMPERED AS WELL! DEPENDING HOW IT IS INTERPRETED IT JUSTIFIES SLAVERY! WHY BECAUSE, BACK THEN IT WAS THE STANDARD. Christians have held the bible above GOD! They have even placed his son before him, even thought in the bible it mentions about worshiping false idols!! The bible has become false idol, in its name we kill, enslave, rape, pileage and make wars!!! I do not think, it was what god had in mind. Isn’t it funny that in the 7 DEADLY SINS – NOTHING ABOUT HOMESEXUALLITY!! LETS SEE – lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, enby and pride!! These are the capital or mortal sins! so homesexuallity is a mistemeanor or minor sins, forgivable!!!!
LiberalRose,
According to scripture, all sins are forgivable except blaspheming the Holy Ghost (I’m not exactly sure what that means, but I certainly don’t want to do it).
I guess it all comes down to whether or not you believe that the Bible or Christianity condemns homosexuality and considers it a sin.
Some do – some don’t.
I can consider the rest save number 1. Homosexuality isn’t natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.
It is a foolish idea!
Imagine yourselves in pain of having the gender that you did not ask for nor dream of. I learned to hate myself whenever I imagine that. Or maybe it is the indifference caused by negative connotations that follow it. More so, when authorities in this field usually insinuate that being a homosexual is tantamount to condemnation or eternal damnation to hell.
Can I really change, that is, to long for my opposite sex instead? I do not know, but what I know is that it has always been a part of my prayers that the emptiness that can only filled by the same gender be filled by His grace. Even the common ideas that day by day taking my sanity. I am asking God to change my thoughts.
I find rest in Romans 8. To wit a verse, Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
It is by learning my purpose in life that I am able to accept my gender. Part of being gay is being human having an extra strength, curiosity, and open-mindedness. I think that whenever in pain and sorrow, I become one with my self, my consciousness. I can wake up from the reality where everyone has his role to play, a circus of clowns and deceptions.
I love my God, that One that cannot lie. And I know, I am man enough, to realise and accept a part of the Truth that some has been blinded to recognise. I am not a man made from His own image and likeness when I talk only about myself. I become “a man” because I am part of the body where the Head is Jesus Christ and the body is my fellow brothers in the church.
I believe that I am not of this world with materialistic point of view. I am also eternal, and it was grabbed from me. The right was stolen from me. And I have the right to take it back. But how can I do that?
Again I quote, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
The term homosexual, defined outside the bible would mean a lot of things.
It can hurt people. It can cause suffering, not only to the subject (the homosexual) but also to the people around him/her. It can even cause death.
For me, homosexuality begins when a male starts to take notice of a quality/s of another male (same sex). And then, he becomes curious to this new found feeling or emotion, something about that man stimulated his emotion.
But who are we to judge if this is moral or immoral? Everyone feels the above example whether his stimulation was caused by a male or a female. Everyone desires someone.
But desire can mean many things. Love can mean so much too.
Actually, it also depends on the upbringing of the person how he uses the new found stimulus or sensation, whether to perversion or just inspiration.
Perversion starts after taking notice of your opposite sex and then desiring him sexually.
Therefore what makes homosexuality immoral or unclean?
Let us not forget the basic truth regarding homosexuality.
Romans 1:
21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Therefore, homosexuals or not, let us remain clean not only to the people seeing us more importantly in the sight of our God who made us.
By the way, please define the word homosexuality that we have the idea on how we all look at it.
You can be a homosexual, as a gender, but never marry with same gender nor have pre marital sex with them nor do it anytime, anywhere. You cannot have sex, that is!
May I just inform you that homosexual in the bible is about a man, who after having sex with a woman, because of pervertion, he did it too with men. Same as a woman, who did have sex with a man, then for some reasons did it too with a woman.
But gays, that don’t have sex, they are not detested not even a single idea from the bible.
The message about homosexuals was just adulterated by pervert authorities like priests and the like to condemn those who in some point in life were confused of their sexuality.
Be it homosexual or gay, and has felt it even in the earlier stage of life is not a fault or a sin. As I said, we prefer our same gender but who said we can’t control ourselves from lust of the flesh. If I do what I don’t want to do, it is not me who sin, but I am always tempted by the devil. It is not my fault. That is why he who has self control til the end shall be rewarded.
elmantheman,
While I understand your predicament, I do not agree with your views that homosexuals must remain celibate. That is your personal religious belief and I respect it. I just don’t agree with it.
If you believe that you were created by God, then why would you have a sex drive that you can’t act on? It doesn’t make sense to me.
The verses that you quoted do appear to reference homosexuality, but not in the context of a monogamous, loving relationship. In fact, many of the references to homosexuality in the Bible pertain to enslavement or idol worship. It might be helpful for you to read the article linked in my sidebar entitled “The Bible and Homosexuality”. It has a breakdown of each verse that is commonly used against gays.
Also, I’m sure you’re aware that the list above is supposed to be ridiculous. It’s sarcasm. ;)
there are Eunuchs that has opted to remain one.
Sarcasm from Greek ????????? (sarkasmos), ‘mockery, sarcasm’ is sneering, jesting, or mocking at a person, situation or thing. It is strongly associated with irony, with some definitions classifying it as a type of verbal irony intended to insult or wound[1] — stating the opposite of the intended meaning, e.g. using “that’s fantastic” to mean “that’s awful”. It is used mostly in a humorous manner, and is expressed through vocal intonations such as over-emphasizing the actual statement or particular words. Use of sarcasm is sometimes viewed as an expression of concealed anger[2] or annoyance.
I am homosexual, so are you implying that I am angry or trying to insult myself? The intent is to insult the arguments that right-wingers use to promote bias against homosexuals.
Eunuchs were often men who were castrated to be used as male servants for women. Therefore, they had no sex drive and the husbands of said women didn’t have to worry about them having sexual relationships.
Matthew 19:12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
Your question is like asking someone to kill, why?
Because man is capable of killing anyone. Thus, your analogy that If I believe that I was created by God, then why wouldn’t I have a sex drive that I can’t act on. And you ended saying that it doesn’t make sense to you.
YOu know Brian, I will copulate if I want to. It is not the copulation that drives me. It is but my prerogative. No one can tell me to have a sexual intercourse or marry a woman just to act on my sex drive. If men appeals to me more, why would I push myself to copulate with women? But I am not saying that I am not free to have sex with men but I was given freedom but not to succumb to call of the flesh.
Galatians 5:13For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
And more importantly, I am not a hypocrite to fool myself just to prove that I have a sex drive! Now I said that there are eunuchs that have opted to be one, because it is for kingdom of heaven’s sake.
It is true that God commanded man and woman to produce offsprings, but that was during the time that the planet earth is not yet wasted.
But since the planet earth is overpopulated, it is therefore wiser to stop. We all know that the end is nearing. I would not want my children to suffer during the Great Tribulation. I know I can endure it but I can’t gamble my salvation. The church can taste the most bitter experience like dying from hunger before the end times but I don’t think you can take it seeing your child starved to death.
More importantly, I don’t want to be anxious about this world but rather be anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit, now that I am learning from the scriptures.
This is how homosexual Christians perceived reality. We are preparing. Let me just prove it again as how it was said in the Scriptures:
1 Corinthians 7
25Now concerning[e] the betrothed,[f] I have no command from the Lord, but I give my judgment as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy. 26I think that in view of the present[g] distress it is good for a person to remain as he is. 27Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek a wife. 28But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a betrothed woman[h] marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that. 29This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, 30and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, 31and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away.
32I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. 33But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, 34and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband. 35I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord.
36If anyone thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his betrothed,[i] if his[j] passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry–it is no sin. 37But whoever is firmly established in his heart, being under no necessity but having his desire under control, and has determined this in his heart, to keep her as his betrothed, he will do well. 38So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who refrains from marriage will do even better.
39A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord. 40Yet in my judgment she is happier if she remains as she is. And I think that I too have the Spirit of God.
It is not just about men or women being married, or not being married, it is for every rational being to decide on what to do more so with homosexual or gay Christians who opted to be eunuch not physically to cut of the organ but not to use it for reproduction’s sake. But for the sake of anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit.
But for the sake of my salvation, to be anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. Maybe some homosexuals would just want to be feminine and be a woman in every way he can. I don’t think they don’t think of having sex with men too. But let us consider the idea that these gays have not experience copulating with the opposite sex, would that give them the right to have sex with same gender and to the extent of even getting married?
But only by thoroughly studying the scriptures that gays or homosexuals can be freed from the bondage of lies and deceptions made by the devil. We will be able to accept what we are and what we ought to do. And with the grace of God, we can do it.
Can you please read again my whole comment? I am sorry if my comments imply that what you posted was based on your own idea and I am rebutting it. I was also giving my point of view as a student of the Word of God.
Thanks for the space brian. Hope we can meet.
Its the age old debate of my beliefs are truer than your beliefs, my scriptures are more correct than your scrptures, my God is more powerful than your God. I believe that the only thing we can do is aggree to disaggree. If your believe it, then live it for yourself, and let others do the same.
Excerpt from an essay of mine:
It is understandable, therefore, that many things written in this book [the Torah, or Book of the Law] in its present form have been added, deleted and changed. It has gone through centuries in the hands of political figures who also have been known to modify such things to meet their political agendas.
If we are to assume that the Messiah was sent from the same God who revealed the law, then we should also expect his teaching to mirror what is in the Law. As they did not, many Jews rejected Yashua as the Messiah, and many Christians assumed that his teaching supplanted the Law, but in doing so they would concede that God has changed his mind.
I propose that God did not change his mind, and that Yashua stated correctly that he had not come to abolish the Law, that not one jot or tittle of the Law should pass away, but all should be fulfilled, and that any parts of the scriptures that conflict with his teachings are merely the false additions of priests and scribes.
It is most commonly said that the God of the New Testament is a God of Love, whereas the God of the Old is a vengeful God. This, however accurately reflecting some scriptures, is totally incompatible with the unchangeable nature of God.
The only conclusion before us is to accept that parts of the Law have been added, which are not therefore binding on man.
The greatest example is the cruelty of stoning sinners for numerous offenses, which reflects the attitudes of other Semites on the area, such as recorded in the Code of Hammurabi. Yashua stopped a group of people from stoning the adulteress, which was fully justified and required by the Law as they understood it, in favor of forgiving and allowing her the opportunity to repent. If Yashua encouraged people to break the law in any circumstance, he was a false prophet. Scriptures tell us that even he was not excused from following the Law, as he had to be baptized by John to fulfill all righteousness. The only conclusion that can be made is that stoning of sinners is not part of the authentic, original Law, but was added by men to reflect their system of values and justice.
I, therefore, reject such practices as judging and stoning, for both are condemned by the Law and other teachings. We may take this example and apply it to other circumstances as well, and ask ourselves what “laws” are we requiring others to follow, which may not even have been part of the Law in the first place.
If anyone did not catch my drift in the above, I speculated that we may not know with a certainty which parts of the scriptures are authentic in the condition that they are in. For all we know, all of the sections that deal with homosexuality could have been forged. The fact is that God gave humans the freedom to break the law however they see fit and answer directly to him. There is no occasion given for “Christians” or anyone else to set themselves up as intercessors between God and people in interpreting and administrating the Law.
Most Christians obviously do not know their own history and where “legal” marriage comes from. It was a product of Roman Catholic oppression to control people and property in the early middle ages. The answer is simple. Ban legalized marriage altogether and allow each person to interpret their private contracts and obligations for themselves. Christians can understand their definitions of marriage based on their interpretations of scripture and other as they see fit.
I beg to disagree with your last statements Christopher Matt. It is a reflection of what you know, not what the Bible imparts, even God.
1 Timothy 1:
1I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time. 7And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
The Apostle Paul is certainly urging the Church of God(the man Christ Jesus), composed of the Christians(as the body), and Jesus Christ being the head of the body. The writings were done for us, those living near the end times, and apostle Paul was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.

this really does show the ignorence of people today twards gay marriage.
@ ANA: Yep. It does.
There are things I disagree with, but it doesn’t mean I hate it. I prefer monogamy in relationships, but that doesn’t mean I am against polygamy and polyamory. I prefer that my husband and I stay monofidelous with one another, but if we got the urge, we watch porn together on the Net, though even what we like differs…:)
PS I actually am attracted to polyamory because I think it is sweet, but I prefer monagamy in sexual relationships because it’s the next best thing to abstinence to stopping STIs from spreading too rapidly.
Organized religion is nothing but mischief. There may be a god whose love surpasses all understanding, but those spouting dogma (making others feel uneasy) are not channeling that deity. Love, my foot.
A government that can dictate whom people may NOT marry will eventually dictate whom people MUST marry. Beware of such interventions. For those spouting bibleisms, I propose you would spend your time better by answering the infernal question of the number of angels capable of dancing on the head of a pin.
I just stopped here, btw, while tumbling through links bars- a delightful weekend habit that brings me to blogs such as this. Check out the dates on the responses here- very gratifying to the blogger, I should think.
Forget heaven, nirvana, paradise, etc…live forever in the blogosphere!
This website is absolutely amazing. I’m just a teenager but I recently did a research report on gay rights & when I first read this I was appauled by some of the things that it said but soon realized that it was meant to be sarcastic. This is a very good and meaningful website!<3
Christians hate sin. The Bible clearly states homosexuality as a sin. I hate to say homosexuality, because they call us Homo sapians – I keep thinking if that is the case everyone is homo and sexual. Hehehe. I also agree with Maria. But because we love you doesn’t mean we are gonna let you change the way we live or what is right, like you say we’re doing to you. We don’t come into the gay bar and say we have a right to be here and start holding church and if you don’t let us we’ll shut you down. Anyway as far as the list
1) I agree, it isn’t it’s heterosexuality twisted. Next question
2) That is true. However Infertile people have a genetic problem or chemical problem and old people can have babies. Next!
3) 95% true. I mean what child doesn’t emulate there parents if the parent is good? Next!
4) There is a difference between getting married before God and a the state performing the ceremony. And why are you basing Marriage’s value and intent on a few people, especially celebrities? That’s like saying “Oh he rode that shopping basket down the hill, so now it’s a car or they used the vacuum cleaner to jerk off.” That is the problem with white people and people in general. Your so focused on what celebs do you forget about reality. NEXT!
5) The women being property was the same as having a keep out sign on your house. It’s yours and nobody else is allowed to take residence in it. Just as the man belonged to the woman. As far as the last two those were inventions of or where modified by white government in america. Blacks used to marry whites before they said it was illegal. And divorce was only legal if someone cheated. Next!
6) I guess you’re all for the courts making decisions. Right? Well what if the make it illegal to be gay and those that were are to be put to death? I guess that would be ok because the “court” said yes. Next!
7) Ok I love this one. Religious freedom meant freedom from the church of england not freedom of all religion. If it be the opposite why is Christianity the ONLY belief called a religion? Besides can you say with the certainty that you will die if you’re wrong, that christians are the ONLY ones who hate Homosexuality? Next!
8) I don’t know about you but it seems like because it is cool to be gay that everyone, majority white, is gay/experimentin or has to play one on tv to be considered a great actor or friends with one. Not to say there is a problem with the last one. So yes it will. Next!
9) Well the people (Zoophiles, those who sleep with children, necrophiliacs) that the gay community, which is supposed to be sooo accepting, condemns marched with the gay rights activist on Washington to get the same rights. For the rights of the gays & there own. The statement was that they had the right to love and sleep with whom & WHATEVER they choose. Next!
10) Well I wouldn’t use that statement, seeing how most inmates were raised by only 1 parent.
11) See that shows how much you know. We are not living as long now as we were then.
12) This funny to me. My mom and I discussed this. Why don’t each person get a job with benefits, write a will or power of attorney before the situations arrive? Gay people just aren’t smart enough to think like that. I mean if you want those rights they are available to you without changing what existed before gay people did.
@ Emma: Thanks!!
@ Jada: There is so much wrong with your comment that I don’t even know where to begin. You and your mother are examples of what is wrong with this country today.
And if thinking like you is what it takes to be “smart enough”, then I’m more than thankful to be an idiot.
I agree totally Brian. I’ve thought about responding for a few hours now, but since reading your reply I will happily be a not-smart hetero.
*raises hand* proud to be idiot #2.
*note to self, don’t p*ss Brian off* :P
Fun fact: marriage is equal for all. Anyone of any gender can marry anyone of the opposite gender. It’s equal.
@ Jen: I don’t see anything “fun” about that “fact” at all.
Blah, I didn’t mean it THAT way. I personally might not believe in gay marriage from a religious perspective, but I do believe in the government not restricting what people want to do. The “equality” argument isn’t what should be used is what I meant. More of a personal freedom argument would work a lot better.

It is just as tiresome to be stereotyped for your religion as it is for your sexual preference. Please stop talking about ‘Christians’ as if we are all the same person. The same open mindedness that you want afforded to you could be used while considering ‘Christians’. Unless you’ve met them all, how can you say what they ALL want? It’s just as ignorant as you claim they are.
In fact, are you saying that Brian hates homosexuals? Cuz from my reading, he would be defined as a ‘Christian’. So by your characterizations, he would have to be intolerant of a gay lifestyle.
It would be refreshing to stop being judged by a religious title or a political title. Haven’t we learned what stereotyping does yet? I just don’t get it

Please view and think very hard about what this cartoon is trying to say.
“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”
I read this post and can’t even respond to it right now. It’s a great post by the way. I just can’t respond to the mentality of some of the comments that were made. All I can say right now is Brian, enjoy your life, enjoy you loved one, and I’m glad you’re “In Repair”. We may not be altogether now but we will get there.
YOUR, Your loved one. I should have proof read it first.
@ joanharvest: Great advice, Joan!
The amount of factual ignorance in these blog post comments is truly frightening. But if Christians and non-Christians should be able to agree on a single one of Christ’s sayings, I would think it would be this one: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
If we are to take seriously what Jesus meant when he said that (to a group of religious bigots who were more than happy to kill a woman for sleeping with a man out of wedlock — a man who was NOT going to face similar judgment!) then we must confront our own rash judgmentalism and lack of desire to love others without wagging fingers at them.
If we can look inside and see the other not as “strange” and “different” but as another version of God’s chosen creation, then why do we need to talk like this?
Sigh.
Hey Brian,
I’m starting a new club: “Christ Followers United for the Separation of Church and Hate”, want to join me? :)
JimT
@ Boy Grows Up: You’re right. Getting some of them to view us as designed by God is probably going to be quite a challenge, though.
@ JimT: That’s a great idea! Sign me up!!
Thundershadow>>> What do you make of this scripture: Matthew 19:11 “But He said to them, “All cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given: 12 For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother’s womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.” ? Who do you think these eunichs are that Jesus speaks of?
Absolutely brilliant post- loved it!
(Just dropping by from the forum, love your blog.)
these “facts” are by far the dumbest thing i have ever read in my life. i can prove every single one of these wrong.(with actual facts… )
ok so i re-read over these “facts” and in all seriousness…. is this like a joke website or something?
ha ha ok nevermind….. i didnt read the part above it ….lol this is brilliant though!!!
@ Katie: Yep, it’s a joke. :D
I just wanted to say that this sight is absolutely brilliant!!! I read through all of the blogs and just simply laughed, because of the ignorance of a lot of people. I am a big supporter of the gays and lesbians so I just have to say….If you are against same-sex marriages, don’t f*#king get one!!!!!
@ Ashley: I agree. Thanks for visiting!
While this post had its humor as well as its seriousness, some of the comments– and I read all left before mine– were so blatantly offensive… hateful and ignorant and completely intolerant for that matter, that I scowled my way through them.
I’m not saying that I don’t believe in God, but I do believe that the Bible is not as reliable a source for believing in, serving, and loving God as many Christians seem to think; we already know that there are “lost” books to the Bible, and that it was written by men, not by God– doesn’t this already leave room for doubt involved with the transcription, the interpretation? So what REALLY disturbs me is that a lot of the “gay-bashers” that I’ve come across use Biblical citations to attack homosexuals.
I’m not even homosexual, but I’ve had my “good Christian” family members and friends and even perfect strangers shun me, threaten me with hellfire, throw the Bible at me (yeah, that was a new one)… they gave me the works simply for having gays and lesbians for friends– for not hating them for being who they are and loving who they will.
I don’t recall it ever being preached to me that God loves everyone the same… except, of course, for gays, lesbians, murderers, rapists, child molesters, liars, adulterers, anyone who disregarded the 10 Commandments and practiced the 7 Deadly Sins… SORRY, guess the world’s screwed if that’s the case. I don’t want any of the holier-than-thou business aimed toward homosexuals when no one is perfect nor has need to be (we’re only human…); if you think you’re any better than that, then YOU are the one with a problem.
My apologies for the rant.
–Brian, I appreciate this post, and hope you live well and with no opposition to your happiness aside from what every other human on this planet has to live with.
–Those of you with the biting comments (as if I really need to name names), I’m appalled but know and accept that you can’t change a person who doesn’t want to be changed; you’re self-righteous bigots, and best of luck to you.
–As to you others: peace, love, and joy in your lives. Don’t let anyone ever tell you that you deserve any less.
Since California now allows us to vote on other people’s human rights, I propose we put to public vote that anyone who says gays are dirty, diseased, pederasts or a privileged elite be sterilized.
one. i do appriciate this post i beleave that it was very inventive and able open up a very heated topic.
two. some of these comments on here mad me laugh and others made me pissed. so here i go…
in the bible the word homosexual is not actually in the bible, and has been proven by very highly respected translators, because if you didnt know the original bible was not writen in english. it was wirtten in almaec then was translated to latin then to welsh then greek then english, and at the time latin and almaec and greek did not have the word homosexual in the lang. and then there were the historians who found out that king james told his bishops to rewrite the bible so that it would make sence to him. and then there is soddom and gamora in the bible that people have been throughing at gays ummm yea that had nothing to do with homosexuality. back then it was actually illeagle for a person “entiertain” guest in there own house(a whore house), so they whould send solders to go in and kill everyone in the homes. so lets not put homosexuality and the bible together anymore.
i didn’t know so many people were still religious..quite surprising. Iv’e found this blog and particularly the comments thread so interesting. So much detailed interpretation of a book..as a youth this concept is surprising to me. I almost thought we were becoming a post-religious society for a while…Anyway i think Christians who are for gay marriage are making a good decision..because it is their own decision. But still, i think you are the people that really need to consider your own religion. Making ones own decisions about ones morals is something which religion does not embrace. You so clearly disagree with religion on this front because you know Christianity to be incorrect. But consider the other ideas and practices that Christianity dictates. If it can be so obviously incorrect, what makes the rest so holly. You have seen what damage religion has done to gay rights, but you support it’s other forms and policies as well? Once you see what it has done to this minority, you must start to notice the other damage religion has done. Stop worrying about a phrase from a book written so long ago. Make your next decision yourself.
These reasons either seem old, stupid, or both
1.gay is not natural to straight people, but that doesn’t mean it is evil
2.the world has expanded to 7 billion people, and we need more? this is too much
3.there are thousands and possibly millions of gay people that are born into straight families, even in christian families. 1 in 10 people are gay, therefore it is inevitable.
4.a straight person in a non-loving relationship has more of a right to get married than two gay guys that love each other? that is sad.
5. this should be taken to court because Ammendment 14 protects the rights of all minorities, and if they are being neglected then the Constitution is broken.
the list goes on: Welcome to the United States where it doesn’t matter if you’re gay, straight, black, white, athiest, christian, or whatever. Everyone is Equal!
@ Erik: It’s amazing that three years after this was first posted here, people are still posting comments about it. What’s even more amazing is that people don’t take the time to read the text right above the list that explains it’s meant to be sarcastic.
LOL. Reading through the comments made me realize something about a lot of Americans being too engrossed in their religion. People (even the homosexual ones) make too big of a fuss when something is not heteronormative. Have fun, Brian!
It is a sin to have premarital sex. Marraige according to the bible is between a man and a woman. That says it all, gay sex is a sin because gays can’t get married.
1 in 10 people are gay?? – reference please
my god, you have some serious issues. Women are NOT property!! That is extremely offensive, and we have lives and are not OWNED by men. We are just as important as men – without us, there would be no human population. And also, you are wrong – straight parents do not only raise straight children, or else there would be no gays to begin with. Yo say that Gay marriage is not supported by religion, but if that is true, why would god create them in the first place? Jesus accepted all sorts of terrible people, like tax collectors and even prostitutes! Why are gays any different? I do agree that they should not be allowed to raise children or anything, but give the people a break! They have done NOTHING to you, and you are slandering them for no reason – it is merely prejudice. I am not gay, but I believe that people should try and know a person before hating them. People need to walk around in others shoes.
oh my god! I am sooooo sorry for completely abusing you! I didn’t see the statement that said this was sarcastic – I thought you were being serious! I did mean what I said though in the previous comment about those ideas – they are completely stupid! But sorry for taking it out on you!
