Fairy Wings

“Beautiful” isn’t the first adjective that you would normally think of when someone mentions a cicada, but I was rather astounded by the sight of this newly molted creature hanging from our trash can lid last night. I just had to photograph it, because the wings were breathtaking. They were incredibly fragile looking and a luminescent green color that reminded me of fairy wings.

It was amazing! He was apparently hanging like that to let his wings dry and harden without damaging them.
